At-Home Body Wrapping
The body wrap
produces therapeutic and cosmetic benefits by cleansing the
body of toxins and reducing inches. Body wraps can aid in
healing of skin problems, tone and tighten the skin, improve
circulation, alleviate muscle and joint pain, treat acne,
detoxify the body and help mobilize fat so it can be
eliminated from the body naturally. The effect of the wrap is
determined by the ingredients that you chose to use.
A simple wrap can be a mixture of a clay and some natural sea
salt. You do not need any special equipment other than a
mixing bowl, heating pot and wrapping sheets (you can easily
use ace bandages, muslin fabric or remnants of your sheets),
and if you want to finish off with saran wrap that is
advisable, it is also helpful if you have an electronic
blanket. It is recommended that you do 1 wrap per week for at
least 6 weeks and then 1 per month after that, for maintenance
and continued detoxification. It is however safe enough to do
a wrap every day or even multiple wraps in one day to quicken
the effects.
Choose Your Ingredients
A wrap does not need to have many ingredients to be effective
- the ingredients that you chose should fit the purpose. A
wrap can be very simple with clay, and some salt or it can be
more complex with the addition of herbs, essential oils and
nutritive ingredients. The exact proportions of ingredients
are not too important here but the repeated use will pay off.
For one wrap, you will want to make up about 4-5 cups worth of
dry ingredients. I have listed only the most popular wrap
ingredients, do research on clays, herbs, salts and essential
oils to get more variety in your wraps. Prepare for your body
wrap. Get the clay and wetting agent ready.
CLAYS
Dead Sea Clay: Dead Sea clay is rich in the minerals found at
the bottom of the Dead Sea. Used alone or mixed with other
clays, it is great for facials, body wraps, hair wraps, and
soap. Add about 1 tablespoon of clay per pound of soap for a
nice dense, exfoliating lather. Magnesium is important for
both combatting stress and and fluid retention, slowing skin
aging and calming the nervous system. Magnesium deficiency has
also been linked to psoriasis. Potassium helps to balance skin
moisture. Sodium is important for the lymphatic fluid balance
which is important for immune system function. Bathing with
products high in Dead Sea Salt can help replenish the minerals
which are critical to our skin's metabolism.
French Green Clay: French green clay is mostly montmorillonite
and is therefore highly efficient at drawing oils and toxins
from the skin. It is rich in important minerals and phyto-nutrients
and is the most commonly used therapeutic clay.
WETTING AGENT
1 cup apple cider vinegar to 56oz of distilled water
milk powders, form a thick cream by adding a small amount of
water to a chosen milk powder. The lactic acid in milk helps
remove dry skin cells from the surface of the skin and the
milk fat acts as a moisturizer.
Instructions For Body Wrapping
Do you know the benefits of Dry Skin Brushing?
Your skin grows daily. There is a continual layer of dead skin
lying upon the surface of the skin. This needs to be
exfoliated daily. Dry skin brushing before the body wrap or
lying in a tanning bed will rid the body of these dead skin
cells, open up the pores, stimulate the sweat glands and brush
up your blood circulation. This is the most important part!
Cellulite is the indirect cause of poor blood circulation. So,
first dry brush then prepare for your epsom salt soak.
Epsom salts for detox
Another simple way to draw toxins out of the body is to take a
hot epsom salt bath. After dry brushing, this is what I would
recommend. Hot water draws toxins out of the body to the
skin’s surface, and while the water cools it pulls toxins from
the skin. When magnesium sulfate (epsom salt) is absorbed
through the skin in a bath, it helps to draw toxins from the
body, reduce swelling and relax muscles.
Epsom salts are named for the mineral rich waters of Epsom,
England, where they were known at least as far back as
Shakespeare's day.
Epsom Salt Detox Bath Recipe
1 cup epsom salts
handful of sea salt
2 tablespoons of bath oil
Pour the ingredients into the tub while the tub is filling.
Caution: Do not take hot baths if you have high blood
pressure, heart, diabetic or kidney troubles.
After get out of the tub and dry off.
Now Start wrapping at the ankle's and wrap up the legs!
Always wrapping in an upward motion. It will take about 12-15
wraps for one body depending up on how much you weigh. If you
weigh 250 lb. it will take 20 wraps or more. Then proceed on
up the body. Put on the vinyl suit and the vinyl booties to
catch the water and to stay warm. If you do not have a vinyl
suit, it is just as easy to follow up the wrap with saran
wrap, this locks in the heat longer. Stay in the wraps for at
least one hour and preferably lying down under a heated
blanket. It is important to stay warm during treatment. The
dry heat sauna will give you a more thorough treatment. After
your treatment, take off the wrap and wipe off the clay and
your good to go, do not shower for 2-3 days after and drink
plenty of water.
Rules to Keep Inches Off:
1. No eating after 6:30 p.m.
2. Drink eight to ten glasses of water a day to cleanse your
body.
3. Limit your salt, sugar and caffeine intake,
4. Avoid carbonated beverages, sweets & starches. Carbonation
holds toxins in.
5. Cut down on animal fats. Fiber and complex carbohydrates
are excellent substitutes.
6. Do not shower before the wrap or for 6-to 8 hours after.
Soaps, lotions and creams clog the pores of the skin and will
hinder the effectiveness of the wrap.
7. Dry skin brush every day before your bath to firm, tone and
tighten skin.
8. Exercise at least three times a week.
