Granted you might be sitting at home and it is a weekend of laziness and relaxation but remember your never really alone, are you? You have to live with yourself – so how good do you feel about your grooming now. Do it for yourself! When you feel like you look cute and wouldn’t mind a drop in visitor it means you are going to feel great.
Getting your grooming under control and in a form of a quick habit will do wonders in how you feel about yourself and how you interact with the world. So let’s get started and talk about grooming!
1)Your Lovely Visage
Let’s talk about your skin. Your skin is the first thing people notice when they look at you – well, that is after they look at your pretty eyes. How good does your skin look for your age. Skin doesn’t have to be wrinkle free to be beautiful. It just needs to look well taken care of. I will walk you through the most basic skincare regime. First pick up your double-sided mirror and say “Hello, beautiful!” do this every day and really work on believing it. Next put on your most luxurious spa headband and clip your hair back. With some help from a professional or some research done on the best skincare forum I have ever come across, Essential Day Spa, find products suitable to your skin type. Try to keep it simple in the beginning with a make-up remover, cleanser, toner, moisturizer and eye cream. You will also want to get a morning cream with sunblock to protect your skin. As you become more and more comfortable with your basic skin care regimen then you can add serums, masks, and facials.
2)Your Body Care
Taking a bath and shower can be one of the most relaxing times of our day. Everyone has a different schedule for washing their hair but showering your body should be done more frequently, especially in summer or if you exercise. To keep skin soft and firm have you considered using a body brush and dry brush your skin. After a quick dry brush, jump in the shower. When taking a shower shave. If you do not like shaving, it is a good idea to get waxed. Once you are finished you can moisturize and if you are so inclined layer your scents and apply antiperspirant.
Everyone needs to have a smile they are proud of. Even if we are not happy with our teeth caring for them is very important for our overall health. My dentist once told me that the majority of her patients do not know how to properly care for their teeth. Get started with PLAX rinse and use that as your first step to loosen the plaque in your mouth. Then you will use a small toddler toothbrush and use a technique called “dry brushing” which concentrates on the gum line to loosen plaque. The next step is using a waterpik. Waterpiks have helped patients with gingivitis since it helps stimulate the gums. My dentist told me that flossing needs to be done once a day at minimum to remove the plaque that gets between the teeth. Make sure you follow the natural c curve above your teeth, scraping off the plaque as you go. Put toothpaste on your electric toothbrush and brush your teeth for 2 minutes pay special attention to your molars. Scrape your tongue and finish off with Listerine One. Do this twice a day.
4)Your Fingers & Toes
Keep your nails clean by using a nailbrush when washing your hands. No matter the length of nail the best thing you can do is keep your nails clean. You will also want to break the habit of biting your nails or biting your cuticles. This is a form of anxiety and perfectionism and it is a hard habit to break but it is possible. My best tip for breaking a bad nail or cuticle biting habit is smoothing the skin around your fingers with an emery board and then painting liquid bandage on the areas that you bite. This worked for me and I was the worse case I have ever seen. I do find myself slip back and start nibbling but out comes the emery board and liquid bandage. Trust me it works!
If you noticed when it comes your hands it is just important to keep your nails at a length you are comfortable with and clean. If you want to really step it up that is when you might want to polish with clear or a nice neutral or nude color. This is the basic hand maintenance that you need to do to look polished. If you are going to polish stick with shades of nudes, pinks, and reds. Leave the fashion colors and crazy nail art for teenagers. I do not they they look very elegant. Also it is good to mention that the minute your nails chip, you need to refresh your manicure or just completely take off your nail polish. Never walk around with chipped nail polish. THE HORROR!
Your feet on the other hand might require a visit for a professional pedicure if you have never had one. It is hard to get nice, soft feet if you have never had a pedicure before. I use a combination of a ped egg, an electronic pedicure electric file, and also keep a pedicure stone in my shower to quickly slough away dead skin in the shower before I body wash. Like your nails, keep your toes well groomed with short toe nails.
Nothing screams I’m in a rut more than overgrown roots pulled back into a haphazard ponytail with fly-aways from every which way. First things first is get your color in order. This depends on your financing. Hair is really the place that might take up most of your beauty budget and you will have to make choices dependent on that. If you are coloring your hair with a color that is shades different than your natural color – I would suggest going to the salon. Sometimes with the help of your hairstylist you can maintain one month of your roots at home and go in to the salon every other month to refresh your hair. That would depend on having open communication with your stylist. This also goes the same for haircut. The shorter your cut the more maintenance it will need. Pixie cuts look like wash and go but they are not. This cut will require maintenance to keep it looking stylish and fresh. If you are on a budget stick to your natural hair color and keep your style simple.
Do invest in good quality sulfate free products to keep your hair healthy. Take biotin and other vitamins beneficial for your hair. Hair health does begin from within.
When it comes to proper grooming, not style, that is a different story all together. When it comes to grooming, clothing just needs to be well take care of. It needs to be clean, pressed or steamed, loose buttons need to be tightened, loose threads need to be cut. Your shoes need to be clean and if they could use a polishing they should be brushed and polished. The most important detail is that your clothes need to fit.
Put Yourself at the Top of Your To-Do List Every Single Day and the Rest Will Fall into Place.
These are the basic grooming skills everyone who wants to level up their life needs to master. Cleanliness is part of keeping you healthy and remember that health is wealth. Self care is essential for your health and it also nurtures your spirit. When we are depressed grooming is one of the first things that goes out the window. If you are not feeling very good start small. Pick one small action from each of these categories and start from there.
